I The above Council met yesterday, - all member pusent with the exception . of Cr Shrimpion who was granted > leave of absence. ; The Treasury Department forwarded £3OO towards the cost of the Waimarama road formation and towards the cost of the Te Aute-On_>pu road formation. Rtceived. W. J. and A. B. Douglas asked if they were required to pay a license fee for their traction engine, which, they claimed, did not travel on the county roads —Reply to be sent that exemption could not be granted, as the engine was used on a number of county roads running through Messrs Douglas' property. William Nelson drew attention to the blocked condition of the Ruahapia creek, near Tomoana, and suggested a small cutting to the main rivtr to avoid the annually recurring cost of cleaning out the creak. —Referred to a committee consisting of the Chairman and Crs. Donnelly and Simson. C. Levland asked that a road Be closed in exchange for another one running through his property at Clif--1 ton, and G. Ebbett, solici'or, wrote objecting on behalf of an adjoining owner, —Consideration deferred. The Overseer reported that the bridge at Pukahn has been redecked ; road grader at work ten days on VVaimarama road ; men engaged surfacing; men have been cleaning water tables and surfacing during the month; road grader at work on the OlrigKereru road. lenders were ordered to be called lor supplies of horse feed for the ensuing year. Accounts anii'untirg to £8«o is 3d were passed for pa\n>en;. On the motion ol Cr. Chambers, tin: overseer was instructed to put in pipe , and fill up the drain in front-oftlhe I Havelock Post-o/lice. Cr. Simson said he would give to move at next meeting that a fee <T V £ls be charged every motor-car running in the county carrying more than one person, and £5 for car-; carrying one passenger. He thought something ol the kind should be done, seeing the amount of damage to the ro; ds done by these cars. C r. Donnelly said the whole question of motor-cars on the country roads should be gone into.
