The demand for private letter boxes at the Hastings Post Office, has neccessitated the addition of twenty more, whjch brings-the total up to 170, From present indications soipe alterations of an important nature in the proposed sewerage scheme for Hastings, will be suggested by Mr Metcalfe. The Hastings Rugby siib-Union j have practically completed negotiations for the purchase of 16 acres of land at Frimley for a foo:ball field. The ground chosen is an ideal one for the purpose, and •■hould prove a valuable asset to the lccal sub-Union. Mr Metcalfe,C.E.. who has been engaged to review the reports on the proposed sewerage scheme for Hastings, made an inspection this morning of the present sewer outlet, also of the septic taijk site proposed by Mr J. Rogers, C.E. He was accompanied by Mr Cook, Borough Overseer. Mr J. Neilson, a carpenter in the employ of Mr Tom Styles, while working at a plaining n.achine at Messrs Jines and Son this morning, met w;th a serious accident which resulted in his los : ng the second and third fingers of his left hand. A piece of wood he was plaining bucked up. forced the unfortunate man's hand intn the knives, amputating the fingers near the second joint.
