BOROUGH BY-ELECTION.
I'll) TIIK EDITOR.) SlK,—With many others '1 am very pleased to see >ueh a large number of candidates out for the Borough Byelection. Can it be true that at last some of our prominent townsmen are awaking to the fact that it is to their own benefit, also that of Hastings, for them to take an interest in Municipal matters? Several of the gentlemen aspiring to the honour of representing us in the Council have never served us before, and consequently their views on those important works such as Sewerage Extension, Water Supply, Municipalisation of the Gas Works, etc., are known only to their immediate friends. Sir. I think the time is now ripe for us to put aside the matter of voting for a man to represent us because lie is a friend. What is wanted is that the candidates seeking election address us from the public platform, that we may know their views, and consequently will vote for the man whom we know will serve us best. Thanking you in anticipation, I am, &c, Bt RI.KSS. Hastings, July 27th. 1007.
