Racecourse Trespass

(Per Press Association). ■»<—""" ~~ Invercargill, January 29 Mr McCarthy, S.M., delivered reserved judgment to-day in the cases in which bookmakers were charged with trespassing on the "Winton racecourse on November 9tb. Alfred Driscoll, John Fairmaid, Charles Christie, Richard McDonald, and David McLaren were each fined £-5 and costs. The defence was that the regulations under which the defendants were ordered to leave were improperly made. The Magistrate said that as the bookmakers seemed determined to set prohibitions at defiance, he would in future cases consider the advisableness of inflicting imprisonment instead of fines.
