rer United Press Assn.—Copyright)

Received February 23, 10.2S p.m

Melbourne, February 2:>

If half were secured, the present loss on the cable would be turned into a proiit. He thought there was no likelihood of a reduction of rates under existing conditions. About 'J"> per cent, of the messages were in code, each code word representing about tour ordinary words, so the sender paid only about 'M a word. Speaking personally, he did not think that a pooling arrangement with the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company woidd evenutate.
