The Hastings Standard THURSDAY, DEC 29, 1904. A FARMERS CLUB.
With commendable energy the Hastings Branch of the Farmers' Un ion took up the question of forming a Farmers' Club, with headquarters in Hastings. The movement, however, seems to have been, for some reasoi dropped. Why should it? There is •.wery reason why it should not. A club where farmers from ail parts of ihe district can meet is badly needed, in this centre. The ever present question of, will it pay"? is worth consideration, but we do not hink that aspect of the ease should be a serious bar to the movement, for properly managed the club should, we consider, be self-supporting. Wlieo the enormous extent of country at the back of this town is realised, and the large number of farmers and others who have business in Hastings is considered, there is every justification for the erection of a good club room and the maintainance of a good club. It would prove a boon to all farmers and who do business with them.
