The St. Matthew's Choir Concert was very successful, a great many tickets being sr-'d, and despite the cold evening there was a good attendance Both orchestra! selections were much enjoyed, as were the solos, Miss Samuel's singing of "Abide with Me," especially so. Very pretty handkerchief boxes can be ma,de irom cigar boxes by lining them with quilted silk inside, making a thick padded top, and pretty; friW of silk or lace to cover the outside. Okawa is always a favorite pl ac? for a meet, a nd last Saturday Was no exception to the rule, about sixty enthusiasts turning up to take part in the run of the Hawke's Bay Hounds. After an excellent lunch, provided by Mr T. H. Lowry, all set oH, full ol the hopes of a good' run, but sport was disappointing, and, al-t-hough on several occasions the hounds gave tongue, it was a considerable time before a ft arc could be found, and whun at last, cno was put up, it made straight for t-ho hill (ncrlooking Puketapu, which is exceedingly steep. So by the time i/he held 'had been three times to th-3 top of it, both horses and riders were glad of a spell, though divapiKMited at not getting a kill. A move was made to tn-e paddocks nearer home, and several iiur> runs enjoyed, Ua litres |>ccanie too numerous, and, as the light was tail ifig, hounds were whipped off.
