During lhe debate recience was made to the dispute between the Australian Worker,' L „- ton and the Machine-shearers' Inioh, also to the remarks on the' Arbitration Act by Si r Frederick Darey Chief Justice of New South Hales. Mr Watson interjected T"4 not too impartial judge." Mr C. McDonald (Queensland!) acquisced. saying that the Lastoralists Unions were bribing a man with £2OO to got other mens into gaol. Mr Reid, in a strong speech, defended Sir Frederick Dariey, and said, that to brand one of the' best aad purest .judges of Australia as a political judge was a gross abuse of the rights of criticism. Mr Reid, continuing, said that he appeared for the Australian Workers' Union, and he wished to say inat lie absolutely sympathised with that union in the r matter. There was a pure conspir- ' acy on the part of the pastoralists and some working men of 'a type he i did not believe in. It was a conspiracy to create a bogus union, and their actions in court were not fought by working men's subscriptions, but by money com ins; from another source. ("Sensation'!.
