St. Matthews' Concert.
Tliere was a good attendance at St. Matthew's Schoolroom last evening when the choir of St. Matthew'; under the conductors'hip of Mr J. A Fraser, gave an excellent concert pri gramme. The orchestra centrabuted two items, "Naut-sch Dance" ant "Cookoo Dance, 7 ' both of which were creditable performances, the instruments seeping well together. The choir sang "fttais that Above Us crisply, and one felt sorry the number was so snort. In the secoiu. part they rendered "El Dorado waich was a more difficult part song Miss Samuels made ner lirst acquan tance with a Hastings audience last evening in an Irish ruilaby, and slit created a most lavcirable impression She 'nas a good enunciation and a sweet voice, into which she infuses a wealth of sympathy. She hafi a better opportunity of displaying her powers in an encore song, "The Swallows." The accompaniment, however, was too loud in both numbers. Her song "Abide with Ma,' in the second part was one of the gems of the concert. Mr Crump, qn very short- notice, filled a gap wit-h a 'cello solo "Prayer from Rienzi, which was an excellent item, eliciting an encore to which he responded by "Jschlummerliod,'" Mr E.. BasilJones was enct«re,d ior Ms rendering of 'Trood Company," and, in response, sang the ll Teoman's Wedding Song" with effect. Miss Maddison and" Mr .J. A. P raser contributQd a duet "Twilight," and for a recall, repeated ";*.he '.alter part of the number. Miss Caulton sang that popular number "Love the Pedler," well and for an encore, sang an Irish "Folk" song. Miss Hall, w'ho sail? "Life's Lullaby," gave an excellent interpretation in a very pleasing voice, and with <>\nression distinctly above t'h° av"ra'/r\ T :' "p to a recall she gave a piona.nl son«" I Couldn't.
