A letter, dated November last from the Cardinal to Dr. O'Haran, was put in evidence. Deceived March 16, 9.36 a.m. Sydxey, March 16. At the Conway inquest, Elizabeth Healey gave evidence that Mrs Smith told her Conway had money and jewellery and h was taken, but they did not know by whom. Thi3 was after she had read the newspaper account of the case.

Professor Warren, one of the experts appointed by the coroner to inquire into the Sydenham disaster, is of opinion that the chief cause was the high rate of travelling, estimated at between 10 and 50 miles per hour. He condemned the derailed class of engine, which should not be allowe for the safety of the public to continue in service in its present form. There has been a gale with heavy tain all night, and the shipping are sheltering. The cabte repairing steamer Becorder, which left to overhaul the New Zealand cable, had to pot back through stress of weather. Peeth, March 16. Another case of plague has been discovered.
