THE REPS. WIN BY SEVEN

WICKETS

( Per "Press Association.—Copyright)

Sydney, Wednesday

The first of tbe series of three matches which are to bo played between the Australian Eleven picked to visit England and a team representing the rest of Australia was continued and concluded to-day, resulting in a win for the Australian Eleven by seven wickets and three runs.

Requiring 249 to win the Eleven commenced their second innings, and at 8.40 p.m. had obtained the required number with the loss of three wickets. Iredale and Darling set about the task, Giffen and M'Kibbio bowling. Iredale sent a lighting one intended for the boundary, but Laver with his long reach intercepted with his left hand at point and effected the most brilliant catch of the match, the first wicket falling for 89. Hill followed. The South Australian partnership proved a solid one, and the score mounted steadily. Various changes in the bowling were ineffective. The century appeared as tbe result of an hour and a quarter's batting. Both batsmen got into the half century almost together. After lunch Graham was tried in tbe bowling, but 23 runs were hit off him in double quick time, Darling also smote M'Kibbin heavily, making three boundary hits off three successive balls, and brought his century up. Hill had not a chance against the soft stuff, which Darling monopolised. Eight bowlers were tried to effect a dissolution.

With his score at 104 -Johns missed Darling off Laver, but the bowler had his revenue next ball, Pye making a great catch on the boundary. Greeory filled the vacancy and just reached double figures when Johns caught him behind the wickets. Worrall was next, and Ilill brought his century up shortly afterwards.
