THOSE PARTY WALLS.
The Hastings Borough Council determined yesterday, almost by an unanimous vote, to retain the by-law relating to brick party walls. A petition, in opposition to the by-law, signed by a number of leaseholders, would doubtless have been favourably considered, had not the request been made that all leases be exempted. This was quite unreasonable. We commend the Council for having introduced a by-law which is much needed ; but, in the interests of all concerned, it might well have been passed in a modified form, even if it were necessary to commence the proceedings tie novo.
