In the House of Commons the Hon. St. John B rod rick, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, stated that Britain had remonstrated with America relative to the serious effect of the Bill making Hawaii an American Customs district. In the House of Lords the resolution of Lord Kiccaird, who has ia'isn an active part in the anti-Ritualistic crusade, jroduced a strong debate against habitual confession. Lord Salisbury said that he preferred the open confessional in the Church, to the secret interview in the vestry. If people, especially women, •wished to confess to men. Parliaments were powerless to prevent it. The Premier promised to obtain statistics showing the confessional boxes in use in Churches.
