The garrison at Berber has been strengthened, and a detachment of troops has been sent up the river at Bara to prevent the Dervishes' movement northward. The Dervishes at Shendy and Metemneh are advancing on Berber. December 25. The native levies at Kassala have captured the Dervish past at Beira. The latter suffered heavy losses. (Received December 2S, 9.25 a.m.) December 27. The officers of the Egyptian army have advised that 12,000 troops will be required for the Anglo-Egyptian campaign in the Soudan. Six hundred Askares tribesmen have joined the Egyptian garrison sent to invest Kassala upon its recession by Italy to Egypt.
