In an interview George Giffen said he would like very much to play for Australia, in fact he felt as keen as ever, but, candidly speaking, he would be out of pocket if he accepted now the terms asked for. Three months ago, when he wrote to Manager Wardill, he would have joined in with the others, so that they might act together, though he felt sure that his own pocket must suffer, and if the promoters agreed to termshe should be bound to make a contract with them. They, however, would not, and Mr Cresswell, the Secretary of the local Association, stated that if necessary the Association, in order to secure the matches, would make up the difference between what was asked and what was offered. Lyons, Jones, Darling, and Hill agreed to Cresswell's intervention, but from the first he would not allow the Association to make up any difference in his case. He felt justified, as he had been left standing alone, on what he regarded as a matter of principle, in refusing to accept a term that would not remunerate him for what he would lose by leaving Adelaide to play in the test matches. It had been asked whether it would not be worth a slight financial sacrifice to gain popularity if he asssisted in the remaining test matches, but he replied that popularity would not keep him,
