The Public Works Statement is a most voluminous document. Like the Financial Statement it deals with almost every conceivable subject under the sun, Some of it forms interesting reading, however, in particular tlnit having reference to light railways. Mr Hall-Jones has had a difficult task before him. He has had to construct £ lot of bricks with very little straw. Taken m ibe whole lie has done his work well. The remarks of Mr Heilby, J.P., from the Bench ui Hastings this morning, should prove a warning to that class of individuals who use filthy language in the street 'iuth the utiaust impunity
without regard for the feelings of the respectable portion of the community. The vicious habit is becoming too common, and should be suppressed as speedily as possible.
The British Lion has, to use a colonialism, v " walked all over the Australian kangaroo. No longer will we boast of our Hills, our Gregorys and our Trotts. Sis wickets for 87 ! Shades of George Giffen !
