The St. James's Gazette says that the British Government warned France that they will have recourse to counter valuing dues if the bounties are maintained. Ninety five per cent of the engineers rejected the proposals made by the employers at the recent conference. The cotton spinners have decided to lend the sum of £IOOO to the engineers, and to contribute a levy of (id per man per week. Colonial Dyer, president of the Employers' Federation, declares that the Socialists caused the whole dispute, and that the Employers' Federation were the kindest friends the workmen ever had. The Times states that the reported settlement of the Niger dispute is premature, but the conference on Friday last between Baron I)e Courcel, the French Ambassador in London, and Mr Chamberlain, cleared the ground for a compromise.
