Striking of the Nelson.

[By Telegraph] (Per Pre-ss Association.) Wellington, This day. The Magisterial enquiry into the striking of the Nelson began this morning. Captain Perriam said he struck on some place between Sinclair Head and Karori rock, where no dangers were shown on the chart. There was _ a shoal steamer about a quarterof a mile outside the ship. Mr H. D. Bell, who appeared for the Collector of Customs, suggested that the spot where the vessel grounded was really in the shoal off Sinclair Head, but the captain denied this, and asserted that he was about a mile and a half off the Head. H. L. Davis, chief officer, said he was on the forecastle when he heard the ship grating over the bottom. He said there were no rocks about. He was a mile off shore.
