Copeman, one of the medical inspectors of the Local Government Board, has discovered that the admixture of glycerine destroys microbes ia calf lymph. A sensational money-lending case was heard at the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice. One Lewis, a well-known West End moneylender, sued Second Lieutenant H. H. Clay, of the Second Life Guards, to recover the sum of £11,003 on two promissory notes alleged to have been signed by him jointly with Lord William Neville, fourth son of the Marquis of Abergavenny. Clay (who is the only son of the late J. Spender Clay, of Ford Manor, Surrey, who left some considerable fortdne), pleaded in defence that he only signed the notes as witness, not as principal. The jury believed his story, and found a verdict in his favor. Lord William Neville is at present residing in Spain. At the wool sales there was spirited competition for good wool, while inferior and wasty wools were in weak demand.
