Accidents and Fatalities.
(By Telegraph.) Christciiurch, Dec. 2. At the inquest to-day touching the death of Edward Henry Stevens Hill, killed yesterday through the collision of his bicycle with a baker's cart, the evidence showed that the driver of the cart was absolutely blameless. The jury returned a verdict of accidental death, and added the following rider, "The jury are of opinion that steps should be taken by the authorities to regulate the speed of bicycles, to ensure by bicyclists the observance of the rules of the road, and to provide penalties for breaches of the regulations." Wellington, This day. A young man named Walton, a second saloon passenger by the Kaikoura for New Zealand, committed suicide by jumping overboard while the vessel was nearing Teneriffe. He left jetter addressed to his friends indicating that he intended suicide. He was well connected at Home.
