The Emerson Enquiry.
[By Telegraph.] Gisbobne, This day. Mr Jacobs, steward of the Omapere, and late of the Dingadee, gave evidence stating that Emerson was not drunk aboard the steamer. He did not play cards after 11 at night. He never had to assist him to Lis bunk. He heard no noise or heavy fall after Emerson went to his cabin. Immediately after the complaint was made about the wash basin he examined it, but saw nothing to justify the charge. During the whole voyage from Napier to Auckland Emerson had very few drinks ; he only remembered serving him with one or two drinks on the whole trip which lasted four or five days. His behaviour had never been objectionable when travelling on the ship. Cross-examined : He said Emerson had gone off to the Omapere that morning and asked him to give evidence.
