Supreme Court Sittings.

The criminal sessions began this morning, the list comprising thirteen cases against fifteen prisoners. The Chief justice said there were none of them out of the usual, and called for no remarks from him.
Charles Silboon pleaded guilty to a theft of £lO and was remanded. -Jas. Hangham, convicted of indecent assault on a child, was remanded for inquiry as to his mental condition. He had been in an asylum some years. Philpott, who is accused of the a Hawthorne murder, pleaded guilty to charge of forgery and false pretences. The judge commented on the facts of several previous convictions and sentenced the prisoner to three years' hard labor. The Grand Jury may possibly be adjourned to Thursday and Philpott brought before the Magistrate in the interval to enable the murder case to be taken this session. It is understood the accused himself is desirous to have it come on as soon as possible. Chp.istcuckch, This day. The criminal session of the Supreme Court was opened this morning. His Honor in his charge referred briefly to the cases on the calendar, which were of the usual character. In regard to the forgery cases, his Honor said whilst people were ready to take cheques from anybody who presented them people would be found to forge them. Andrew Thompson, forgery and uttering cheques, pleaded guilty and remanded on probation for the officer's report. John Lindsay pleaded guilty to tittering a cheque. Sentenced to two years. James Channing Bignall pleaded guilty to forgery and uttering a cheque. Sentenced to three years. Richard Dawson, setting fire to a stack of hay, pleaded guilty. Sentenced to jgretve months. James Candlish pleaded guilty to breaking and entering. Remanded for Probation Officer's report.
