Colonel 11. P.Norfchcatt, of theLeinster Regiment, who served with the Ashantee Expedition in 1H95, is to command the expedition from the Gold Coast to the Hinterland. Major Lingard will operate inland from Lagos towards Eoussa. The latter town is the destination of gunboats recently despatched.

Eleven hundred of Colonel Northcott's carriers have revolted owing to lack of beef rations, and returned to Cape Coast Castle.
