THE SOCIAL—AND THE "EAST END WARD."
[To thk Editor.]
Sir, —Allow me, as an East End donor of sausage rolls, to thank Mrs John Smith (I really think I have heard that name before) for her great kindness in writing to you the letter of last evening. I am sure without the East End—and Mrs John Smith — the affair would have been a blank. Owing to our efforts it turned out a most gorgeous success. There were seven firemen present, and they nearly all came from the East End. I have still a bunch of raddishes and some potatoes left. This leaves us all well hoping you are the same. Thanking you in anticipation for always using your paper in a good cause—l am, &c. Cabbage. P.S.—I should like to print my name in full, but mother asked me not do so, as modesty has always been a leading characteristic in out family.
