Late Cable news and Parliamentary Notes will be found on our fourth page. The Borough overdraft stands at present at JE27UI l:-5s lOd. Owing to some unaccountable mistake the name of Thomas Home appeared in our report of the proceedings of the Court yesterday. This should have been John Home. A Press Association wire from Lyttelton states that Allandale, wiio escaped from the Lyttelton gaol, was captured to-day on the Port Hill, after considerable difficulty. Mr Gilruth, one of the Government Veterinarians, who went over to Motueka to ascertain the origin of a disease amongst the cows in that district, has returned to Wellington, and reports that the mortality was due to milk fever. The second number of the Government Insurance Recorder is at hand and is an improvement on No. 1. While pleasantly keeping the object of its existence before its readers, viz., the advantages of life insurance, it also contains some short articles really worth reading. If the great demand for tickets for the Fire Brigade social to be held on Monday night is any indication of success then Monday night's event will be graced with a large assemblage. The ladies of the committee ate working hard to bring about a substantial balance to be placed to the Brigade's funds. A young lady was riding a horse along Heretaunga street last evening when her horse swerved at a pool of water at the junction of Railway street. The lady was thrown over the horses head, but fortunately she held to the reins which broke her fall and she came to the ground uninjured. On Saturday Clara Langford, a probationer from the Mount View Asylum walked over the Queens' Wharf, Wellington, into the water, but was rescued by Mr Holford, and taken back by Sergeant Mulville. —The young daughter of Mr C. Richardson fell olf the breastwork, and would have been drowned but for an unknown rescuer. Mr Wason regaled the House the other night with on interesting anecdote anent a parrot and and a fox-terrier. The bird had deluded the terrier by saying " Rats " on several occasions, till one day the dog "went for" the parrot, whereupon that luckless biped soliloquised—" the fact is I talk a sight too much !" The parrot was the Premier. A daring robbery was committed at the vicarage of Noirterre, Niort (France), by three men dressed as cyclists. The only occupant of the house at the time was the cure's niece. The men knocked her down and after breaking open the cure's desk and stealing £l2O, they saturated the poor girl's clothing with petroleum and set fire to her. They then mounted their bicycles and rode of. The girl succeeded in tearing off her clothes before receiving serious injury. A meeting of the A. and P. Society was held at Napier to-day, there being present Messrs J. H. Coleman (President), T. Crosse (vice-President), Fitzßoy, Brown, M'Hardy junr., Anderson, Potts, Hislop Wellwood. The first business was the receipt oj: the balance-sheet for the late show which, contrary to expectation, showed a credit balance ot £9 odd. The president spoke in a very pathetic maimer of the loss sustained by the society through the death of Mr James Boyle, who had always been an active member and took great interest in the society. Mr Wellwood followed, and it was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to Mrs Boyle. Mr J. Ebbett was appointed in place of the late Mr Boyle. Notice of motion was given by Mr Potts, that he would move at the next meeting that all judging of horses and cattle take place in future on the first day of the show. Mr Wellwood drew the attention of the committee to the fact that the society was retrograding instead of advancing, and impressing upon the members the necessity for c-itra vigor being thrown into the business. This was agreed to by all. The other business was of a routine character. Dr Pascall's Pills cure Indigestion, Heartburn, Costiveness, Headache, Furred Tongue, Wind, and all symptoms arising from a disordered state of the liver, stomach, or kidneys. They cleanse the bowels, and act like a charm in removing all impurities from the blood, toning and refreshing the whole system. Is 6d and 2s 6d per box, Agent—A, Eccuss —Adyt,
