At the Melbourne races yesterday Response ran third to Legs in the Hurdles. The ex-Maoriland mare fell in the hurdles on Cup Day. Kallara defeated Majestic and 11 others in the Spring Handicap. Aurum defeated Key, Amberite, Essex, and Ayrshire in the Flying Handicap. The Oaks was won by the Trenton mare Elusive. Positano and Bundook dead heated in the Veteran Stakes.

St Conon has shaken oft his soreness and put in strong work over several furlongs. The Brook, who rail a circuit on the plough with Primula in 2min47secs, was very lame. Venus moved freely over two rounds. Lord Rosslyu fleered two rounds slow. Sir Lancelot covered two circuits on the grass going very well. with feather weight up, registered jMPSfae and a half in 2.44, the last mile in f 1.47 jon the grass. "Waiuku tackled two rounds strongly, each time coming fast down the straight. Skirmisher travelled the cup distance going all the way soundly and running the last mile in 1.5 H. Vanilla. Social Pest and Female Franchise worked after breakfast. Useful work was performed by Bloomer, Marino, Quiltiri, Starshot, Sedgebrook, Vedetta, Defiant, Daunt, Target, Blazer, and Belle Clair, the two latter running together over a good six fmlongs.
