A DRIVER'S LICENSE

[To The Editor,]

Sir,—l ask for a small space in your journal in reply to a malicious attack made on ma by Crßeecroft at the last meeting of the Borough Council. His statement is entirely unfounded and in bad taste. I never had any intention of contravening the regulations. I called at the Council Chambers on Show day to take out a license, but the office was closed, and I only made one trip while not holding a license. I write this to clear myself in the eyes of the public. Cr Beecroft seemed to make capital of the fact that I am a blacksmith by trade. I always thought this was a free country, and that being a blacksmith did not prevent a man Barbing a livelihood in another legitimate way. I think the pfep6n wb<> attacked me was a publican when he first took out bis driver's license ; wfjy should objection be made to one trade and not another. —I am, &c., WftLUit GrftAiWH.
