Serving a Prohibited Person.
(Per Press Association.) "(By Telegraph.) Wanganui, This day. The licensee of the Criterion Hotel was fined Is and costs for supplying liquor to a prohibited person. The defence was that the licensee had only been here 3 months and did not know tho prohibited person. The Magistrate said, prohibition being absolute, it was not necessary to prove that the licensee knew the person to whom the liquor was supplied. He admitted that the law might operate harshly against licensees who acted honestly and in ignorance of the fact that the person supplied was prohibited. Notice of appeal was given.
