ESCAPE OF A FEMALE
PRISONER. GENERAL WEYLER RECALLED. A WARNING TO AMERICA. (Pt?r Press Association. —L'opyriyht.) Madrid, Oct. 9 News has been received that the niece of General Cisneros, President of Cuba, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for being connected with the rebels in Cuba, has succeeded in effecting her escape from the Spanish authorities. Senor Sagasta, the Premier, has offered to grant autonomy to Cuba, but under Spanish suzerauity. The Cuban rebel leader refused the offer, insisting upon absolute independence. General Weyler, who refused Senor Sagasta's request to resign as Com-mander-in-Chief of the Spanish troops in Cuba, has been recalled, and will be succeeded by General Blanco, late Governor of the Phillipine Islands and commander of the Spanish forces operating against the Phillipine rebels. Preparations are being made for the despatch of an additional^2o.ooo men to reinforce the Spanish troops in Cr.ba. Senor Sagasta has reminded the American Government that America has been largely responsible for the continuance of the Cuban rebellion.
