Maid of Honor, dam of Freedom and Captive, died recently at Auckland. The Musket mare Precaution, dam of Projectile, died in Australia last month. Rushboy was sold in Melbourne the other day for 9»ns. Miss Fmmy will probably return to Auckland this week. Dottrel's chance in the Oaks looks brighter with this move. Culverin was scratched to-day for the N.Z. Cup, and Golden Legend for the Stewards' Handicap at the Canterbury meeting. The New Zealand Cup may now be boiled down to a dozen horses, and after the l'ark meeting more light will be thrown on the big handicap. Ln the following dozen I expect the winner to be found Eurorlydon, St Paul, J >ay Star, Waiuku, Epaulet, Mountebank, Antares, The Brook, Blarney, Douglas, Skirmisher, and Strath braan. Nominations for the Otaki Hack meeting close 011 Tuesday next at 0 p.m. Altogether j£:-iuO will be given in stakes, including £IOO for the big handicap. The Otaki meeting is undoubtedly the best hack gathering in the colony, and several good stakes are within reach of many of our local horses. The course is in capital order and all arrangements as complete as on any metropolitan course. Local horseowners should avail themselves of the chance of capturing a few good prizes. The "Wangamh weights appeared .yesterday. Waiuku, Blarney, ami Vedette litad the list in the Spring Handicap with 9st 101b, 9st 61b, and Bot 61b respectively ; New Forest has received 7st 91b. Tally-ho, Melinite, and Misslire have received list 21b, list, and lOst Sib resphctivelv in the Hurdles. Barshot has been allotted top weight t.Sst 121b; in the Ftying.
