The fields were good and the racing interesting throughout. Thirteen horses faced the starter in the Trial Handicap, which resulted in a win for Mr Gollan's well-bred horse Tirant D'Eau. All the acceptors went to the post in the Maiden Hurdles, the winner turning up in King Lear. There were eleven went out for the big money, which was a good betting race. The squire of Flaxmere was not present to see his colt win a race after many attempts, but Captain Russell will receive the congratulations of all true lovers of sport on his win, which was immensely popular.
