St. John and Hayman Company.

"THE VAGABOND." A cutting from the Palmerston Times says:—"The piece staged was Sims ami Pettitt's four-act drama "The Vagabond," which afforded the combination every opportunity of displaying their histrionic ability to advantage. The performance, on the whole, was a very even one, and proved a genuine treat, the audience being quite unprepared for such an excellent representation. The drama abounds in some thrilling and exciting situations, which were given with such faithfulness in regard to details as to win the hearty appreciation of the audience. In Mrs Harrie Marshall's hand tha character of " Leslie Grey," the heroine of the drama, received ample justice, and the lady created quite a furore. Her acting was extremely natural throughout, in addition to which her graceful manner and attractive appearance caused her to at once Income a warm favorite. She was well supported by Mr Bert Bailey who appeared as " Jack Peyton " (the vagabond). In Mr Irve Hayman the company possesses \ a comedian of the first water. His representation of "Simeon Jacobs" was simply perfection, and to the very life. In less capable hands the character would probably have been overdone, but not so with Mr Hayman, and the cleverness with which he brought to the surface the many humorous incidents connected with the extraordinary character he was pourtraying proved him to be an artist of the front rank. Miss Dora Mostyn maintained her reputation in the character, of Ned. During the company's stay here the bill will be changed nightly.
