THE SCULLING RACE.

— A WELL-CONTESTED RACE

(/Yr Press Association.— Cojii/riijltt.)

London, Sept. 27. Towns scaled list and Barry two pounds less. The betting prior to the race was 2 to 1 on Barry. Towns won the toss, and selected the Surrey side of the river. Barry was first away, and at the Star and Garter led by a clear length. The mill was left behind in smin lcJsec, and at Harrod's Towns spurted, soon establishing a lead. Hammersmith bridge was shot in 9min SOsec. Barry had by this time gradually overhauled the leader, and was on level terms with him as they passed The Doves. From this point to Chiswick, where Towns again showed slightly in front, the struggle was a ding-dong one, but at the brewery Towns had further increased his lead, and eventually won a grand race by three-quarters of a length. Time, 23min 34sec.
