The mollahs of Hadda and Ketar have persuaded the Orakzais to hold the Sampago Pass, and the Afridis are defending the Bazang valley against the British punitive forces. Colonel Westmacott's brigade has destroyed the towns and villages in the Yacobi valley, the headquarters of the mollah of Hadda, after meeting with severe resistance and forcing a narrow defile guarding the entrance to the valley. The British casualties during the fighting totalled 12. Prior to his flight to Ningrabar the mollah of Hadda ordered a mosque to be destroyed. The Alikhei and Orakzais tribesmen in the Chanki valley have offered to submit to the British authorities. Sydney, Sept. 27. The Government is considering, prior to submitting to the Imperial authorities, a suggestion by the local military heads to offer the services of a body of men to assist in the suppression of the rising on the Indian frontier. Besides the prestige they consider it would prove an excellent training for the troops.
