Further details of the capture of the Bedmanai Pass by the force under General Ellis show that the tribesmen refused to face the bayonets, but stubbornly held the pass for four hours against the attacking column until they were demolished by shells and the Maxim guns. The mollah of Suffi, who with 2000 of his followers reinforced the mollahs of Hadila, in order to strengthen the courage of his adherents and remove the fears of the Ghilghazi tribesmen—many of whom believed they would be killed—promised that Allah "would close the muzzles of the opponent's guns. Sept. 26. The Upper Swatis have submitted and surroundered their rifles to the British authorities. The Mollahs Hadda and Suffi have fied to Mingoahra amid the curses of the tribesmen. Hadda fell from his horse and had subsequently to be carried by his followers on a little.
