Maori Contingent at Greytown.
A GREAT RECEPTION. [BY TEV joGRAPIT.] (Per Press Association.) Wkllixgtun", This day. The contingent at the invitation of the Natives of Grey town went to Wairarapa yesterday, and were entertained at the Native village of Papawai. Mr and Mrs Scdcion, the Hon. J. Cell-roll, and the Mayors of Pet-one and Piihnerston were among the visitors. * 'The Mayor of Grc-ytown and Mr Buchanan, M.H.R., welcomed the visitors. The Hon -T. Carroll said there was no prouder man in the colony at the present moment than himself. The performance of the contingent had redounded to the credit of the colony and themselves. They had acted as gentlemen and rangatiras, and now practically bad c-ome to the point whence their dispersal would take place. Colonel Pitt and Captain Tanuiarangi returned thanks, the latter saying a draft of the two races had taken place and he was going to agitate for Native Volunteer corps throughout the colony. The day was then spent in feasting, dancing, and cheering.
