Attempted Escape from Gaol.

A PRISONER'S DESIGNS FRUSTRATED. [BY Tf.LEGKAPiI.": 'Per Press Association.) Dcnedix, September 8. •Tames Nortbev, who is _ serving three years for house breaking, _ attempted to escape from the prison gang at Taiaroa Heads on the night of August 28. He Had secured a knife and had partly hewn down a door post of bis coll and had got nearly out when the attempt was discovered. He was charged at the Police Court today under the Prisons Act, and_ was sentenced to a year's extra imprisonment. If chrrged under the Criminal Code he coukl have been sentenced to imprisonment for life.
