(Per Press Association.—('opyriyht.) London, August 26. Four old Etonians attempted to row across the English Channel accompanied by a tug but a heavy swell caused the boat to sink, and the occupants were only rescued with great difficulty. August 27. Lord Salisbury purposes that Great Britain, France, and Russia shall guarantee the Greek indemnity loan, and control the revenues assigned as security. It is stated that tbe colonial Premiers have with them copies of the Right Hon. J Chamberlain's opening speech at the Conference and the resolutions passed at that gathering. Ottawa, August 26. Prince Luigi Amedeo, Duke of Abbruzzi, a nephew of King Humbert of Italy, has ascended Mount Osteclas, one of the highest peaks in the NorthWest Territory of Canada. The party reached an altitude of 18,000 feet, and were 51 days in the midst of ice and snow. Albany, August 27. The Right Hon. R. J. Seddon, accompanied by Mrs Seddon and family, have arrived all well. Tbev will leave Sydney for Wellington in the Union Steamship Company's steamer Waikare on September 6th. The fire which occurred on the Oroya at Colombo was soon extinguished. Most of the passengers were asleep. One case of goods was burnt but the greatest damage was done by water. The goods damaged are chiefly for Melbourne. Sydney, August 27. A boiler explosion near Bathursi completely wrecked a mill, killed a man named Guthrie instantly, and seriously injured several others. Melbourne, This day. It is understood that the conference of Railway Commissioners has reported in favor of adopting the New South Wales 4ft. S|in. measure as a uniform guage.
