THE TROUBLE IN INDIA.
A VINDICATION OF THE AMEER FRIENDLY - DISPOSED TOWARDS BRITAIN. (Per Press Association. —Copi/ri'jht.) Calcutta, August 17. It has transpired that the Ameer of Afghanistan censured the Governor of •Telalabad for allowing the Afghans to participate in the recent lighting at Tocbi and Shabkadar prior to Lord Elgin's remonstance in the matter. The Ameer's agent in Europe declares that the ruler of Afghanistan was never better disposed towards Britain, and states that the recall of the Ameer's agents from India has no connection with politics. ANOTHER ENGAGEMENT. TWO LIEUTENANTS KILLED. THE COUNTRY IN A STATE OF FANATICAL UNREST. Calcvtta, August 18. Colonel Sir Bendon Blood, in command of the British troops at Malakand, found 3000 Swatia at Randikar. In the fighting which followed Lieuts. Greaves and Maclaren were killed, the lattei in trying to rescue the body of Lieut. Greaves. The whole of the Peshawar border is in a state of fanatical unrest. The Afridis and Orakais tribes are seriously disturbed.
