THE ADVANCE COLUMN CAPTURE ABU HAMED. A DESPERATE FIGHT WITH DERVISHES. ( Per Press Association. — Copyright. ) Cairo, August 9. The advance column, under Briga-dier-General Hunter, of the AngloEgyptian expedition to the Soudan, has captured the town of Abu Hamed, between Dongola and Berber. The attack was made on Saturday last, and the Dervishes made a stubborn resistance, the town only being captured after severe house-to-house fighting. Among those killed were Major Henry Marlow Sidney, of the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, and Lieut. Edward Fit-zclarence, of the Dorsetshire Regiment.
