AN ANARCHIST PLOT.

THE SPANISH CRIME. TIIE ASSASSIN ONLY OBEYING ORDERS. AVENGING THE TORTURES OF IMPRISONED ANARCHISTS. ( Per Press Association. —L'opyriyht.) Madi:it>, August 9. Golli, the assas?in of Premier Canovas, is 26 years of age. He declares that he had no grudge against the deceased patriot, but was simply obeying the orders of his superiors. When reproached by Senora Canovas, widow of the dead man, Golli answered, " I have done my duty, and avenged the tortures inflicted upon my friends and brethren in the fortresss of Montjuick." Golli had recently been in prison in Italy for revolutionary writings, but succeeded in escaping. The body of Senor Canovas has been embalmed and brought to Madrid with the honors usually accorded to a Field-Marshal killed in battle. Queen Victoria telegraphed her sympathy to the Queen Regent. LATER PARTICULARS. THE PREMIER STRIKES THE ASSASSIN. t GOLLIDECLARES HE IS READY TO DIE. Madrid, August 10. After Golli had shot Don Canovas the latter struck the assassin in the face and ran, exclaiming " Assassin." Golli mockingly bowed, and remarked that he was avenging the Barcelona anarchists, and his crime was not an act of assassination. After saluting the Premier Golli fired twice at the bystanders, who seized and disarmed him. Golli declares that he is ready to die. His only regret is for the sorrow which the crime has caused his father. He asserts that he purchased the revolver in London.
