GENERAL ITEMS. (Ptf Press Association.) Auckland, This day. The gold output from mail to mail is £81,256 2s 6d, from 10,424 tons treated, an increase upon the previous month's output of £IOBS 15s Bd. The Waiotahi Co., Thames, obtained £533 fcgm 145 tons ore treated. Wellington, This day. The conference of gold fields Wardens is sitting in private discussing the Mining Bill proposed to be introduced next session. At the close of the conference the Bill will be circulated throughout the Colony. A Typographical conference is sitting to consider matters connected with the trade, but the affair is also private. Hon W. Jennings is Chairman. The Typographical Conference carried a resolution recognising the generosity of the proprietor of the Melbourne Age in granting £1 per week pension to seven old employes displaced by the lineotype machines and £2O compassionate allowance to each of the others, also for the liberality of some other firms in Australia in granting retiring allowances to old servants displaced by the machines. A public meeting last evening carried the following resolution unanimously :—"That in the opinion of this meeting it would be in the interests of this colony to establish training ships for the purpose of opening up the nautical profession to the youths of New Zealand and that a committee be at once appointed to devise the best means of giving effect to this resolution."
