——♦ REINFORCEMENTS FOR THE FRONT. ATTACKS BY THE ENEMY, WHO ARE BADLY REPULSED. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) Calcutta. July -B^# The reinforcements despatched Sir William Lockhart have reached Malakand camp. The enemy thrice charged the breastworks on Thursday night, but were badly repulsed. The mad inollah, who acted as leader of the rebellious tribesmen, was amongst the wounded. The British loss was two killed and 11 wounded, including three officers. Professor Goklee, who made a sensational statement to the members of the House of Commons respecting soldiers outraging women while conducting the cholera regulations at Poonah, has landed at Bombay. His arrest was expected, but the professor apologised for the statement, which, he says, he received second-hand. August 1. Colonel Sir Bandon Blood, commanding the Bundelkund district, who* served as chief staff-officer to Sir Robt. Lowe with the Chitral relief force in 1895, is now in command of the British troops at Malakand and has a field force of eight thousand men. Later telegrams state that the Chitral tribesmen endeavored to cut off additional reinforcements which were advancing to support the British camp in Malakand. Telegraphic communication between the camp and the military headquarters in the Punjaub has been interrupted for several days but has now been restored. A British reconnoitring party sent in the direction of Chaddara failed to reach the reserve garrison which is forming at Rawal Pindi.
