A SMOKING-ROOM FOR THE LIBRARY.
[To the Editor.] Sir, May I suggest that before the committee start the proposed smokingroom (which will only benefit a certain number of members) they fill up the holes at the gateway and entrance to the Library so that we need not wade through water when there is any rain. If they have any funds when that is done they might "replace some of the damaged books, as some of the old ones are in a shocking state. If they were to do that they would earn the thanks of all members. I have no doubt it would be nice to read and smoke at the same time, but so it would to be able to read an interesting book without finding leaves torn or missing at the best parts. —I am, &c., Member. P.S.—Why not impose a small fine on members returning damaged books '? The fine might go towards replacing such books.
