Steeple winners only the first one. Success, was n staliion. The mare Ruby scored in ISSO, and in the fifteen other cases the prize lias gone to geldings. Aldington will be a non-starter for the N.Z. Cup. McManemin will prepare An tares for the Cup. Antares is nominated for the Sydney Metropolitan Handicap. Corolet, a yearling sifter to Gold Medalist, died last week. I'ounamu was entered for the Auteuii Grcnd Hurdle Race of £'2ooo, which was fo !>•'■ run 011 June 9ih. G. Smith, who rode Impulse to victory in the N.Z. Cup, is now bush whacking. It is seldom that a knight of the pig-skin becomes n knight of the axe. Atmena, a daughter of Martini-Henry, won the High-Weight Handicap at Newmarket this month. The sum of £31,042 was put through the totalisator at Hastings during the seven racing days of the past season. G. G. Stead heads the winning list for last season with £•"»*' 14; Hon. J. I>.
