THROUGH THE BURSTING OF A DAM. A MAN HORRIBLY MUTILATED. [By Telegkaph.] (Per Press Association.) Auckland, This day. George Griffiths was drowned at Smytbe's bush, near Tokatea, through the bursting of a dam. The body has not been recovered. Later. Particulars of the death of Griffiths show that he met a horrible fatality by the bursting of a dam in a creek at Kennedy's Bay. Deceased was repairing a creek with sand bags when an ominous cracking sound was heard. Without further warning the structure gave way with a thundering crash. The body of Griffiths was found on the creek bank half a mile below the dam, naked, with every limb fractured. The face and body were terribly mutilated. Deceased leaves a wife and young family.
