A SUGGESTION.
[To the Editor.] Sir, —I should like to make a suggestion, through your columns, to the committee of our local show. Would it not be possible to combine a horticultural department with the present programme ? I am sure it only wants a little encouragement of this sort to make the Hastings gardens " a joy for ever " —at present they are very much the reverse, with a few exceptions. And a few prizes for plain aud fancy work, painting, and various kinds of cooking, such as cakes, jams, &c., would be eagerly competed for by the ladies, who at present are not catered for to any extent. It would not cost much to erect a tent on the show grounrt could be exhibited, and there ought to be no difficulty iti finding ladies to judge the various entries. To defray the cost of prizes, See., a promenade concert could be held on the ground, and would be very attractive ; or the theatre could be utilized for the exhibits during the day and a concert given there in the evening. Trusting that the committee may see their way to carry out something of the sort.—• Your-, &c., A Hastings "Woman.
