The Wainui Ashore.
THE PASSENGERS AND MAILS LANDED. (By Telegraph.) (Per Press Association.) W Ellington, This day. The Union Company has received advice that the Wainui, from Nelson to Wellington went ashore at the French Pass this morning. ' So far as is known the position is not serious. Later. The Wainui fouled the rocks known as the Beef Barrel in a fog last night, and the captain thought it advisable to beach her. The Corinna, which was on her way to Westport, has gone from Nelson to her assistance. Latest. The latest wire the Union Company has received from Captain Lambert is :—" Beached Wainui in Waikawa Bay ; 12 to 15 feet water alongside; leakage in fore part; making no water; boat can lay alongside and can take all cargo ; think diver can effect temporary repairs."
