Ward in Winton, a portion of the Awarua electorate, held on Saturday evening, was attended by between 300 and 400. An address from Mr Ward was read stating that he placed himself unreservedly in the hands of his constituents and that if it was their wish he should contest the seat. His services were at their disposal. A resolution was passed unanimously expressing continued confidence in Mr Ward and pleasure in accepting his services. A strong central committee formed to secure the ex-Minister's return. The meeting was very enthusiastic. Meetings in other centres foi the same purpose are announced. Mr Cuthbert Cowan, who contested the seat at the general election, is the only Opposition candidate announced. The contest is certain to be confined to these two.
