The Racing Conference.
(By Telegraph). (Per Pnx.s A-wiati"ii.) Wellington, This flay. The Racing Conference opened this morning. The Auckland, Canterbury, Dunedin, Hawke's Bay, Wanganui, Wellington, Taranaki, Greymouth, Nelson, and Marlborough Racing Clubs were represented ; also Auckland, Canterbury, I%wke's - Bay, Wanganui, Wellington, Taranaki, Nelson, Greymouth, and Marlborough country clubs. Sir George Clifford presided, and explained that the present meeting was convened for the revision of rules. The sub-committee, he said, had carefully considered the present rules, and made alterations where tbey were thought necessary to bring them in unity with the English and Australian code. Certain of the proposals which were to be submitted were the consolidation of rules, and were no new departure. The chairman said that unless notice of motiou had been given no amendment which meant a substantial alteration in the rules regarding racing would be accepted. Some of the delegates objected, but the chairman insisted on his ruling. Mr Allison, Auckland, moved that metropolitan clubs should appoint the official calendar for the district instead of the Racing Conference deciding official calendars. Captain Russell and the Hon G. McLean supported, though the former thought lhat a sub-committee should be appointed to deal with the question of an official calendar that would be suitable to all and possibly one separated from any newspaper. Ultimately the amendment was withdrawn and Mr Allison gave notice that he would later 011 move to set up a committee to deal with the matter.
